Rose, New York
Rose is a town in Wayne County, New York. It is around fifty miles west of Syracuse and around forty miles east of Rochester., its population was estimated at 2,200. The town encompasses a number of hamlets known as Glenmark, North Rose, Rose, and Wayne Center.
There are two odd historical tidbits of Rose. In the 1800’s a number of residents established a non-denominational religion. They were known for their religious get-togethers that lasted all night. Hence they were called the “Neversweats.” According to legend, they moved to Wisconsin and named their new settlement Wild Rose. A separate peculiarity occurred in 1840, when the town went through a mass delusion and its residents believed treasure was buried within the town, leading to mass excavations. No treasure was ever found.
