Washingtonville is a village in Orange County, New York. It is inside the town of Blooming Grove., the population of Washingtonville was approximately 5,800. The village covers just over two and a half square miles. It was first settled in 1731 and named in honor of the United States’ founding father and first president, George Washington. In 1895 the village was incorporated. During the 1850’s, the village experienced rapid growth. This was due to the expansion of the Lake Erie and Western Railway. The village played a vital role in the region’s dairy industry, with two large creameries providing goods to the surrounding towns and New York City.
