Orange County, New York

Orange County is a county in upstate New York State. It is considered part of the Hudson Valley region and is approximately sixty miles northwest of Midtown Manhattan. Most of the county serves as a suburb or exurb of New York City. Orange County was formed in 1683 and named after William III of Orange, who later became King of England. The county covers a total area of eight hundred and thirty-nine square miles. , its population count was approximately 403,000.

There are two busy highways in Orange County. Heading north and south through the eastern side of the county is I-87 (New York State Thruway). It meets the other interstate, I-84, just west of Newburgh. I-84 heads east and west from Port Jervis to Newburgh, and then crosses the Hudson River into Putnam County. Heading northwest and southeast through Orange County is New York State Route 17 (NYS-17)/US-6. This highway merges with I-87 in the southeast. As it heads northwest it connects to I-84 and then continues onwards towards the northwest boundary. These highways are exclusively patrolled by the New York State Police. They conduct frequent traffic stops, mostly for speeding. The speed limit on the highway will not exceed 65 miles per hour. Motorists clocked 8o mph or above run a high risk of being pulled over.
There are busy state roads that also see a lot of traffic stops. These included New York State Route 17k, New York State Route 52, New York State Route 208, New York State Route 94, New York State Route 32, New York State Route 17A, and US-209.
