Moravia is a village in Cayuga County, New York. It is located approximately forty miles southwest of Syracuse and is just south of Owasco Lake, one of the Finger Lakes. The village is within the Town of Moravia. It is the town’s only village., the village had an estimated 1,200 full-time residents.

One of the main roads in Moravia is New York State Route 38 (NYS-38). Route 38 originates in the south in the Town of Owego and the Southern Tier Expressway. The road heads northward through various towns in Tioga County, Tompkins County, and Cayuga County. As it enters the village of Moravia it is known as South Main Street. It continues northward until Cayuga Street where it turns west. Route 38 continues northwest until its northern terminus in the City of Auburn. After Cayuga Street, South Main Street becomes North Main Street and is officially known as County Route 61A (CR-61A). Going east off Main Street, is East Cayuga Street (NYS-38A).

Most traffic stops in the village occur on the aforementioned roads. Common village traffic violations include speeding, no seat belt, and expired inspection. Traffic citations can be issued by officers of the Moravia Police Department, deputies of the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office, and Troopers of the New York State Police. All village violations are adjudicated in the Moravia Village Court. It should not be confused with the Moravia Town Court. The town court has jurisdiction over the rest of the town, outside of the village. The two courts are in different locations and are independent of each other.
