Rockland is a county in Upstate New York. It is part of the Hudson Valley Region, found on the west side of the Hudson River. Its neighboring counties are Orange and Putnam to the north and Westchester to the east. It borders New Jersey to the West and South. Rockland County spans about two-hundred square miles. It is the smallest county by total area in Upstate New York., it is home to roughly 340,000 residents. The county was formed in 1798 and named after the rocky terrain of the Hudson River Palisades.
